Google is working hard to improve local search with their “Pigeon” update. The recent update will enhance local results, with improved distance and location ranking factors, since most online searches are for local businesses. They are doing this because when people are searching online, majority of the time they are looking for a product or service locally. Google is also improving local search by integrating Google+ and Google My Business. They are in the process of completing this integration.
Google also recently added webmaster tools verification for Google My Business. This means that you can now verify your Google Local listings instantaneously. Jade Wang, Google’s Community Manager, announced this saying, “Starting today, if you’re verifying a page for your business, you may be instantly verified on Google My Business if you’ve already verified your business’s website with Google Webmaster Tools.”
How does this work: Make sure that you are logged in to your Google My Business with the same account that you used to register your website with Google. The verification should happen right away if this is done correctly.
