Web Growth – Rhonda Hiltbrand

“Tracking the web today is equivalent to taking a still photograph of a spinning cyclone; basically, it’s a completely insufficient way to measure the dynamic web.” ~Bloomreach Whitepaper

I was reading the Bloomreach Whitepaper and was amazed that in 1995 there were less than 15,000 registered domain names and today there are more than 350 million! It shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. Remember people who were convinced the web was a passing fad? Here are some interesting facts from the report!

• Approximately 100,000 new blogs are added every 24 hours
• Twitter users send 200 million tweets per day
• 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
• 250 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every 24 hours

This is making it harder for the web crawlers (web spiders/bots) to do their job of indexing. Some information is literally not able to be found. According to this report, Video and Flash content that doesn’t contain a text format can’t be indexed by search engines. This is why content is vitally important and simple is better. When consumers are looking for a service center to get their car serviced or repaired, having the term “auto repair” is easy. If they need brakes, transmission or a battery, that is what they will put in their browser.

Some of you may still use some type of yellow pages. If you don’t I’m sure you still remember that in order for a consumer to find your services you made sure you had a listing under auto repair, brakes, batteries, tires and all the major services. A website needs to have the same arrangement, or keywords in order for you to get found easily when a consumer does a search. How nice that you don’t have to have a separate website for each listing (and it saves you money too)!

With all the search engine complexities today it is great to be able to rely on experts such as Repair Shop Websites to make sure your content can be indexed so consumers can easily find you. As more and more domain names are added each year they are working hard to make this possible.
